Which products can I safely eat with food safety?
The Food Safety Education and Research Institute has released a new study looking at food packaging for the health of our food supply.
The study shows that the majority of foods packaged in packaging that are safe to eat can be safely consumed by anyone.
The research shows that most food items are safe, including foods that contain dairy products, eggs, meats, nuts and fruits, according to a press release from the institute.
“We are taking the lead in this country, and the world, in terms of how we create safer food packaging,” said Dr. Amy Tumulty, executive director of the institute, in the press release.
“Food safety is a global priority.
This study shows how packaging can be used to help us meet that commitment.”
In addition to the food safety, the institute has partnered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop a package design that can help food safety in a food-related industry.
“This research confirms what we already know — that a food safety packaging system can help ensure that food comes in an appropriate, sanitary, and safe manner for consumers,” said Mark S. Liss, FDA director of food safety.
“As the food industry continues to move towards a more health-conscious and accountable food system, the FDA will continue to work with manufacturers and other stakeholders to help make food safer for everyone.”
The study was published in the journal Foodborne Pathogens.
